What the Mediterranean Taught Me About Home

There’s a rhythm to life in the Mediterranean that’s hard to forget once you’ve felt it. It’s unhurried, sensual, and grounded in the simple joy of being present. For me, the Med isn’t just a place I visit, it’s where I’ve spent long stretches of time growing up, and now still in my adult life. And with every visit, I bring a little more of it home with me.

In Spain, where I’ve spent many summers, the day bends around the heat. Afternoons melt into slow siestas  - shutters drawn, air still, everything hushed. It’s a small but powerful pause in the middle of the day. A reminder that rest is not a luxury, but a necessity.

Growing up around this, and now reconnecting with it more deeply as an adult, has shaped how I think about home. It’s not just a space, it’s a feeling. And that feeling is slow. Unfussy. Full of texture and light and life.

When I started Rust, I knew I wanted to create something that captured that spirit. Pieces that feel lived-in and soulful. Objects that don’t demand attention but quietly elevate the everyday. A bowl that makes your morning fruit feel like a ritual. A glass that’s imperfect, and therefore perfect. A table that welcomes pause.

The Mediterranean has taught me that beauty lives in the worn, the warm, the well-used. In the 3pm light falling on stone walls. In the way linen crumples. In the silence of siesta. In the slowness of second helpings.

It’s this spirit that I carry home with me - and something I hope comes through in our thoughtfully curated collection of homeware.
